Designed the renovation of UCSC's Merrill Cultural Center and a portion of the Crown Dining Commons buildings.
UC Santa Cruz, Merrill College Cultural Center Improvements with Renovations to Crown Dining Commons
Designed the renovation of the Merrill Cultural Center and a portion of the Crown Dining Commons buildings. These structures were built in the late 1960s. A seismic evaluation was performed using ASCE 41-13. Renovation work included finish upgrades, seismic retrofit, interior reconfiguration, and accessibility upgrades. The dining commons maintenance work also included an interior renovation for a cafe retail area. Work included modifications to kitchen at the dining commons and the performance stage of the cultural center.

Why did you go into structural engineering?
I originally wanted to be an architect. My dad was a structural engineer and he used to teach classes at UC Berkeley’s School of Architecture. I would occasionally go with him. I really liked seeing how things were put together. Dad insisted that I go into structural engineering. It’s been a great career. I still get to work around wonderful architects and I really understand how to put things together.
Little Known Fact
One of my bucket list items is to do a triathlon. I’m an avid swimmer, so I just need to get the other two.
Question of the Day
What hobby would you go into if time and money weren’t an issue?
I’d either be a quilter on Etsy or write crossword puzzles.

Why did you go into structural engineering?
I grew up loving math and physics and building things with my older brother. When he went into civil engineering and brought home assignments from college, I was immediately drawn to the structural ones. Growing up the Bay Area I always wanted to work in SF and loved the idea I could contribute to the skyline, so it all came together with structural engineering.
Little Known Fact
I’m an avid sewer and crafter and love trying out new projects.
Question of the Day
What were you going to be when you grew up?
I distinctly remember wanting to be an ambassador to Japan (mostly so I could meet Sailor Moon). I even convinced my parents to let me take a DVC College for Kids course in Japanese in 4th grade to help my chances. I was not very good at it, but I can still count to 10.
