Degenkolb designed the seismic upgrade of these steel braced frame buildings. Building 44 is a two-story, 250,000 square-foot, office building with a basement. Building 46 is a two-story, 175,000 square-foot, office building housing an important Executive Briefing Center. Degenkolb developed a unique approach for the upgrade utilizing exterior unbonded braces in a splayed buttress configuration. These buildings were seismically upgraded to improve life safety protection for the building occupants and were constructed without significant impact to the continued operation of the buildings.
