Degenkolb designed the structural renovation and seismic upgrade of this single screen Marina Theatre. The 1920s concrete building was gutted, and a new second floor was constructed within, in order to create 19,000 square feet of useable space. The first floor, 11,000 square feet, is used for retail space and the second floor, 8,000 square feet, serves as the new location for the theater and film screening room. The scope of work includes an addition of the second floor and seismic strengthening of the building to meet current code guidelines.

Why did you go into structural engineering?
I grew up working construction in my father’s business. He relentlessly insisted I not “do what he does and ruin your body AND that I go to college”. And so I did, and Structural Engineering was what came most naturally.

I enjoy boating and tinkering on projects at our ‘family’ cabin at Shasta Lake.
