Webasto’s existing metro Detroit location was at capacity, so the company decided to expand and relocate to support its engineering and testing requirements, and to consolidate staff. The location is the automotive supplier’s new North American Headquarters.
For our client Arconcepts, Degenkolb provided structural building design services for the 2-story expansion of approximately 40,000 square feet, utilizing TEKLA software for full interoperability with the architect’s Revit model. Degenkolb’s team designed the structure for a new high bay testing facility and 2nd floor office space that fits in between two existing buildings, blending and complementing the existing façade with precast concrete walls.
Additional challenges include revising the roof framing to include a new 36-foot pyramid shaped skylight; adding a new open-air dining atrium with skylight, and 3500 square feet of infill floor framing to the existing 2nd floor office space.
