Truck Diesel Engine Plant

WHAT WE DID

Designing a lighter, more efficient design for an automotive owner with a compressed schedule.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Degenkolb was asked to provide structural design, connection design, shop fabrication details, erection stability analysis and on-site coordination for a new 250,000 square foot automotive diesel engine plant on 60-80 acres near Dayton, Ohio.

The fast-paced design/build project had the team beginning design in September 2019 with 12,000 tons of steel delivered on-site in December 2019.  Degenkolb’s team designed an efficient 9.5 lbs/SF building, including bar joists, which resulted in significant savings versus the traditional 15-18 lbs/SF model.

Designed for future expansion, the plant enables the automotive company to machine more engine blocks and heads to meet growing demand for heavy and medium-duty pickup trucks.
