Northwest Airlines DC-10 Hangar

WHAT WE DID

100,000 square foot hangar stands eight stories tall to facilitate fleet of DC-10 aircraft.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Northwest Airlines needed a new facility to perform overnight maintenance of its fleet of DC-10 aircraft. Our team performed the structural design as part of the design-build team charged with creating the hangar and adjacent support facility on a constrained site at the north end of the airport terminal. Developed a structural system of four clearspan trussed arch frames supported on concrete spread footings. This two-bay, 100,000-square-foot hangar stands eight stories tall and can hold an entire football field.

This project was completed as Ruby + Associates prior to November 2023. The project experience is included to represent the breadth of expertise of Degenkolb Engineers in the Midwest region.
