Degenkolb designed the seismic upgrade and tenant improvements for six buildings of a computer facility for this Confidential Technology Company. The renovation project for the buildings triggered compliance with the seismic upgrade requirements in the City of Palo Alto Ordinance 4976. In order to comply with the Ordinance, the City required that the buildings meet the Basic Safety Objective(BSO) in ASCE 41–Seismic Rehabilitation of Existing Buildings. Provided structural design services for the seismic upgrade and interior remodel of all six buildings. Degenkolb developed a cost effective solution for the upgrades utilizing braced frames in the longitudinal direction and rod bracing at the clear stories. All buildings were seismically upgraded to improve life safety protection for the building occupants.
