Alder Creek Elementary School, New Design
Construction is underway for the new $62 million Alder Creek Elementary School, part of the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. Alder Creek’s design closely resembles the district’s prototype school, Mangini Ranch Elementary School, and includes a single-building multi-story campus. This new adaptation simplified design features from Mangini Ranch using flat roofs in lieu of multiple sloped roof planes, incorporation of steel detailing simplifications, and the elimination of the Outdoor Lab structure.

Why did you go into Engineering?
When I was in high school, I really enjoyed my physics class and always had an interest in architecture. At first, I thought I would be an architect, but the thought of not fully understanding the mechanics behind the design bothered me. I decided then to follow the civil engineering with a structural emphasis path instead so that I’d know the ins and outs of a structure. This industry also opened my eyes that civil engineering is a service-based industry that provide spaces for the community. This encouraged my interest of forensic engineering to give back to the community with the skills I have.
Little Known Fact
I played rugby for three years during college with no prior experience.
What hobby would you go into if time and money weren’t an issue?

Why did you go into structural engineering?
After working in IT for 5+ years, I wanted to do something that produced more tangible results. I always enjoyed building & design in addition to math and science. Structural engineering seemed like a perfect combination of those skills. I love the fact that I can see a building and know that I had a role in creating it.
Little Known Fact
I spent 3 weeks in Russia as a high school exchange student in February of 1995.

Why did you go into Engineering?
In high school I loved my drafting classes. My teacher told me to switch to the engineering side as he saw it as a more lucrative profession.

Why did you go into the AEC industry?
My dad started taking me out to his geotech job sites when I was 8 years old. I became interested in bridges and skyscrapers and how they are made. Once I developed an affinity for STEM there was no going back.

I studied abroad in Germany for a year and became fluent in German.
What hobby would you go into if time and money weren’t an issue?
A new hobby I am jazzed about is creating my own overlanding rig. I'm looking into different Toyota trucks and SUVs to build out.

Carpooling with my partner.
