Project A Diesel Engineering Plant

WHAT WE DID

Assisting the GM team with an expansion to a 250,000 SF site.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Project A was a major investment by GM to expand their Brookville, Ohio DMAX site that was opened in 2021. The addition adds 1.1 million SF to aid in the production of internal combustion powertrain products for heavy-duty trucks.

Degenkolb was engineer of record, providing 100% design and detailing for approximately 3,750 tons of structural steel. The steel was for the main production facility, administrative building, central utilities complex, cooling tower grillage, and a trestle from the existing structure to the onsite electrical switchyard. Degenkolb’s team also coordinated loading from the GM Process Group and the construction trades with Vulcraft to utilize joist and joist girder roof framing wherever possible. This resulted in cost savings for the project because of a significant reduction in steel tonnage when compared to typical beam and girder roof framing. The Degenkolb team utilized Tekla and Revit software to provide a BIM Level of Development 400 model for coordination with sub-consultants, construction trades, and the GM Process Group.
