ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Degenkolb provided structural design services for the new baggage handling system (BHS) installed as part of the redevelopment of the Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 structures at Los Angeles International Airport. The baggage handling system was comprised of approximately six miles of conveyor, and which consisted of both ground-mounted and overhead supported conveyors. Degenkolb also aided in the design of various catwalk and platform structures required for conveyor maintenance access. Seismic analysis and bracing of the BHS a primary component of the project being in a high seismic region. Degenkolb went above and beyond to provide unique bracing details to alleviate coordination challenges with numerous other trades.
