As the prime consultant, Degenkolb led a multi-disciplinary team of consultants for the seismic upgrade of this 70,000 square-foot earthquake-damaged, two-story, welded steel moment frame building. The upgrade scheme uses steel plate shear walls and nonlinear analysis to satisfy performance objectives for a SPC5 building. The nonstructural components were upgraded to satisfy NPC4 criteria. This Level I Trauma facility remained completely operational during the entire 30 month construction duration.

Features:

  • 2009 Excellence in Structural Engineering Merit Award in Retrofit/Alteration Category from structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC).
  • SPC5, NPC4 Upgrade
  • Operational acute care facility
  • Degenkolb Prime

Benefits:

  • Used ductile thin steel plate shear walls, which allowed minimal intrusion into the existing critical architectural space and mitigated the need to of any foundation upgrades.
