VA Loma Linda Ambulatory Care Center Wins Award of Merit
ENR California recognized the VA Loma Linda Ambulatory Care Center with an Award of Merit at it’s “Best Of” ceremony on October 11th. Degenkolb served as the structural designers working with The Walsh Group and ZGF Architects.
Opening their doors in the fall of 2017, the new $123 million dollar hospital provides space for over 40,000 additional veterans to receive care in San Bernardino, Riverside and Los Angeles counties. The building offers not only standard primary care, but also has behavioral health, dental, rehabilitation and women’s health clinics. The three-story, 346,000 square-foot building is classified as a Mission Critical Facility and was designed to resist blast and progressive collapse demands in addition to the high seismic demands at the site. The environmentally conscious design achieved LEED Silver Certification.
During design, extensive use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) was required given the fast-paced schedule. BIM was used not only to exchange information within the design team but also to track cost information as part of the design-build process.
The project was recognized for its public-private partnership (P3) delivery, one of the largest leaseback projects in the history of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
