Since 1988, Degenkolb has been providing consulting and design services related to the corporate seismic program, which was developed for the client by Degenkolb. The program addresses multiple buildings on their Santa Rosa campus ranging in use from high tech manufacturing and clean rooms to office and warehouse facilities, as well as buildings across the globe. Services include, peer review, value engineering, seismic evaluation and upgrade of buildings, development and management of corporate seismic guidelines, database management, and post-earthquake response and post-earthquake training of facility staff. As-Needed structural engineering services have included seismic retrofit design, tenant improvements, and equipment anchorage design for clean rooms, new MEP equipment installations, and critical manufacturing tools.

The son of a general contractor, I grew up building structures on my father’s crews during the summers and weekends. I also loved math and physics and, when it came to applying for college, structural engineering was the logical choice and felt right. It still does.
I met the Dalai Lama in the Himalayas at age 8.

I was always fascinated by construction growing up and new that I wanted to be involved in building big things. Originally, I thought I would go into the construction side of the industry. However, at some point in college I became more interested in how buildings worked and were designed at which point I determined structural engineering was the best way for me to contribute to the industry.
I enjoy suffering through 100 mile long bicycle rides.

After experiencing the 2001 Nisqually earthquake first-hand, I was amazed at the power of earthquakes and the possibility that buildings and structures could be designed to withstand them. I think seismic design is fascinating and it is rewarding to be a part of a field that aims to save lives and prevent destruction.
I love spending time outside – hiking, running, climbing, anything! Before beginning my career as an engineer, I was a trip leader for multi-day sea kayak expeditions for teens in the San Juan Islands.

I knew I wanted to be some type of engineer because of my love for science and math. I was determined not to become a civil engineer since my Dad is one. I started as a Mechanical Engineering major but quickly determined that it wasn’t for me and alas, switched to civil (structural) engineering since those classes interested me more.
Both of my parents have large families (my Dad has 8 siblings and my Mom has 7) which resulted in 40 first cousins for me. Growing up it was fun to have so many playmates. I am still close to many of my cousins and enjoy spending time with them.
