a large city with many buildings

California Pacific Medical Center, Mission Bernal Campus Replacement Hospital

As a core member of the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) team, Degenkolb designed the 7-story, 215,000 square foot acute care facility. When the new state-of-the-art hospital opened in 2018, it was with 120 patient beds, including 88 medical beds, 10 intensive care unit beds, and 22 labor/delivery beds. The hospital also has five operating rooms and an emergency department with 16 treatment rooms. By developing and sharing 3-dimensional building information modeling (BIM) during the design process, the team’s expertise helped optimize the construction process while the design team optimized the design solutions.

To further reduce the time-to-project-delivery, the IPD team obtained OSHPD’s consent to use Phased Plan Review, allowing the design and OSHPD review to occur simultaneously rather than the traditional approach where the Agency review must wait for completion of design.
