A collaborative effort between GM and LG, Ultium battery cells will power GM’s North American electric vehicles, taking an important step away from our reliance on fossil fuels. With three of these U.S. plants either under construction or complete, the Spring Hill facility, a $2.3 billion investment, represents #2 – and it’s sited adjacent to GM’s future manufacturing plant for the all-electric Cadillac LYRIQ.
Team Ruby facilitated and provided our LeanSteelĀ® delivery method for the massive facility, resulting in a compressed 6-month super structure erection period. Steel tonnage for the new plant was 21,500 tons overall, with peak manpower at 72 ironworkers. During design, the fabrication model began on day one, which allowed for early clash detection with other disciplines. During construction, Ruby’s team handled RFIs and approvals; revisions were resolved quickly; material was ordered; and the detailer and connection designer were fully engaged during the entire process.
