Providing connection design, erection engineering, and a variety of construction engineering services for this 685-foot skyscraper and block in Detroit.
The Hudson’s project includes a new skyscraper with hotel and residences – the second tallest building in Detroit and the State of Michigan – as well as an adjacent 11-story mid-rise 550,000 SF block building. The transformational project will reshape the Detroit skyline and downtown core.
Ruby provided Connection Design and steel detailing for both the block and the steel within the tower facility, including shear connections, moment connections, truss connections, and column splices. The most challenging were the connections to the tower’s concrete-filled-tube columns. Working closely with the Engineer of Record and our client Barton Malow, Ruby designed connections that met the EOR’s design intent with a focus on constructability.
Team Ruby also provided Erection Engineering for the project and a variety of Construction Engineering services including custom tower crane tie-backs to support the massive cranes for the duration of construction; temporary support framing to accommodate Preston Deck installation; metal deck analysis for equipment on the metal slab; and analysis of the permanent steel structure for loads imposed by buck-hoists. The entire project is expected to be complete in 2024.
