Auto-Owners Insurance Headquarters

WHAT WE DID

Engineering a 4-story structure with unique architectural features.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Anticipating future growth, this company built a large structure connected to its headquarters building.  Degenkolb provided structural building design services to Gensler for the project.  The 250,000 SF facility included a new 4-story office building and maintenance structure.

The building has unique architectural features and required some creative engineering. The northwest corner of the building is suspended using a combination of a cantilevered transfer girder and vertical braces. There are multiple interior balconies that support cantilevered monumental staircases, and a hanging conference room which overlooks the 4-story atrium.  The lateral force resisting system is reinforced masonry shear walls, predominantly within the stair and elevator cores.

Degenkolb engineers modeled the building using TEKLA software for full interoperability with the architect’s Revit model for seamless design coordination.
