I was born in Burlington, Iowa and moved to Pennsylvania when I was six. My favorite memories from Pennsylvania are ski trips, science fairs, and field trips to the Smithsonian. At sixteen, we moved to Illinois where I graduated high school and went on to the University of Illinois. My favorite memories from Illinois are meeting new friends, attending Cardinals baseball games, and conducting experimental research at UIUC. My wife and I moved to Seattle in 2003 so I could join Degenkolb. We have enjoyed making new friends here and exploring new places in the Pacific Northwest. We currently live in the Cascade foothills east of Seattle in the town where my wife teaches Kindergarten.

Little Known Fact:
I have climbed three of the five volcanoes in Washington: Mount Baker (10,781 ft), Mount Adams (12,276 ft), and Mount Rainier (14,411 ft). Still on the list: Mount St. Helens (8365 ft) and Glacier Peak (10,541 ft).

Client or Business Philosophy:
Our role as consulting structural engineers is to provide the right service for our clients. Ultimately, we are helping them solve a problem – this means we need to listen to their needs and tailor our services accordingly. I feel that our firm is adept at conveying complex technical information in a manner usable for our clients and strive to deliver this service on my projects.

Favorite Degenkolb Story:My favorite experience was travelling to Christchurch as part of the Degenkolb Earthquake Reconnaissance team in March 2011. We were fortunate to be led by Loring Wyllie and our team learned so much from his past recon trips. Plus we had almost too much fun working on our daily blogs until the late hours every night.

Special Interests:
Rock climbing
