I was born in Berkeley and raised in the east bay, the son of a general contractor and a ceramicist. Having taught structural engineering as a full professor for 19 years at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, I transitioned from academia to the private sector, making permanent a longtime relationship Degenkolb Engineers. My experience includes seismic evaluations, retrofit design and new construction of healthcare facilities, evaluation and design of DOE facilities, evaluation, retrofit and peer review of high-rise structures. I now live in Oakland with my wife and two children.
