What We Learned from Big Healthcare

For more than 10 years, a building boom in healthcare projects has dominated the California landscape. Replacing aging facilities to meet community demands and improving seismic safety has resulted in billions of construction dollars in healthcare expenditures. Degenkolb's healthcare principals have been assisting our clients with their renewal, replacement, and expansion needs.

With more than $6B in modern healthcare construction under our belts here are some of our take aways:

1. Relationships don’t stop at the architect, engineer, contractor level. Whether the delivery model is IPD, design-build or design-bid-build, relationships matter.

2. Phased review, early on-boarding of reviewers, and OSHPD agreements will improve your schedule. What has been regularly a 3-4 year design and OSHPD permit process can be shortened to 2 years or less using these strategies. Using these strategies, Degenkolb has led the delivery of a major replacement project from schematic design OSHPD approved permit in 18 months.
