Establishes and sustains training programs to ensure Engineers and Specialists are maximizing project productivity with BIM, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and other tools. Supports the corporate mission to be among the leading structural engineering firms in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies and to ensure high-quality design document production by educating staff, developing best practices and procedures for efficient workflow, and continuing the advancement of firm-wide guidelines and standards.
Reviews and advises on tools and technology needed for project management and organizing/accessing project data/files in an efficient, effective and consistent manner company-wide.
Develop, streamline, monitor and maintain local and firm-wide administrative standards and processes. To collaborate as peers, sharing best practices and leveraging combined experience for efficient and consistent office practice across the firm.
Promotes mental and physical wellness through initiatives and events. This includes providing healthy snacks in the office, organizing an annual pedometer competition, offering access to a meditation app, and supplying employees with wellness tips and resources. The Committee defines Wellness as the lifelong practice of making the best choices for a person’s optimal health and well-being. We would like to be seen as a resource for questions or concerns relating to the health and wellness of the company and our employees.
Seeks to establish and maintain Degenkolb as an innovative structural engineering firm with respect to sustainable design, while also practicing sustainability in our office operations. The committee leads Degenkolb’s involvement in SEI’s SE 2050 Commitment with the goal of eliminating embodied carbon in our projects by 2050. The committee takes an active role in developing company-wide expertise in sustainable design, assisting in the delivery of projects with a strong sustainable design component, and developing standards for Degenkolb projects and internal office practices.
Fosters a sense of community and belonging at Degenkolb Engineers by sharing our stories, celebrating our diverse culture, empowering each other, and bringing awareness to issues that impact ethnically and racially minoritized groups in the workforce.
Fosters an inclusive environment that supports and encourages the professional development of women through connections across all offices, mentorship, collaborative discussion, and the building of a community focused on making productive, meaningful changes in company practices that increase the recruitment, engagement, and advancement of women firm-wide.
Focuses on idea development and vetting of new ideas designed to foster a culture of innovation, leading to new and improved products and services that benefit our staff, clients, communities, and profession. We guide the development of projects that focus on disruptive innovation versus incremental improvements (e.g. internal efficiency). We use the Build-Measure-Learn loop for new ideas that could generate firm revenue outside of the traditional practice of selling hours.
Leverages the engineering analysis experience within the firm by building and disseminating information, to research analysis development outside of the company for future use, to identify potential improvement areas and develop tools to aid these efforts, and to maintain recommended software programs related to analysis.
The annual New Hire Orientation brings new employees together for a day of team building and learning about the firm. Presenters from across the company dive into the corporate mission, history, standards and values – ending with a social gathering.
Degenkolb’s annually held employee technical conference sees the entire firm come together to listen to engineering, project and business presentations given by our colleagues.
Project Managers experience a year long eight session program on best practices in the industry. The sessions are set up to delve into the firm’s Quality Assurance Manual and present topics such as proposal creation. go-no go policies, and project financials.
Monthly forums are hosted across the firm and in individual groups for educational programing on engineering topics and project lesson learns.
Each month a Senior Principal draws on their decades of experience to address a topic of interest. Previous topics have included client development, seismic corporate programs, and case studies.
Each year a group of employees is taken through a 12 month course on the fundamentals of business development. Called The Priority Sale, the program is customized for Degenkolb by consultants Revenue Path Group.
Each year a group of new project managers and leaders have the opportunity to participate in a 1.5 day long working session to enhance communication, presentation, and public speaking skills including live feedback from a professional coach.
