Congratulations to Degenkolb Engineers’ Adam Azofeifa, a proud recipient of the Giles Scholarship from the Structural Engineer’s Association of Northern California (SEAONC). This scholarship was presented to him in honor of Bill Giles, SEAONC Executive Secretary from 1966-1992. During his time, Giles actively encouraged the young members of SEAONC to participate in the association and make their mark. Following his passing, SEAONC established a scholarship in his name to continue recognition of active young members. Donations for funding of this scholarship are made by the membership of SEAONC to carry on Giles’ legacy. The selection process for the Giles scholarship requires the nomination of an active member by their peers and colleagues. The nomination acknowledges the young members initiative in the association, and encourages their attendance at the SEAONC convention by rewarding the winner with money to cover partial convention expenses. As a young Design Engineer, Adam was awarded the scholarship to highlight his efforts as the co-chair of the Young Members Forum and his active role within the planning committee for the 2012 SEAOC Convention.
